Homestay Program and Student Residences
Homestay Application Form for Students Host Family Application Form for Providers
The GEOS Homestay Program is intended to give visiting foreign students a first-hand experience of Canadian culture by sharing in everyday host family life. As well as being able to use practical English language skills they have learned in school, it is expected that students will be able participate in family activities for a holistic view of life in Calgary. A GEOS staff member visits each of our host families with students’ interests in mind. All families have also had a police background check. Our aim is to provide our students with a secure, educational and vibrant environment. Our host families live in safe, comfortable neighborhoods in Calgary and in neighboring suburbs.
Alternatively, we can also place you in a student residence close to the school, and we can also make arrangements to find you a furnished apartment during your studies. Click here for more information about the accommodations in Calgary.

![]() Hi!! I'm Melissa. Today, I want to introduce the TOEFL course at GEOS. If you need the TOEFL test or want to improve your quality of English, I highly recommend this TOEFL course at GEOS. I was taking ESL classes at GEOS before I took the TOEFL course. Actually I didn't need a TOEFL score, but when I first heard about the TOEFL course, I just decided to take it. First of all, I wanted to study more academically. I felt my English improved quickly for a while when I first came to Canada, but after that, I thought it had leveled off. Therefore, I wanted to study a higher quality of English, and it was the right decision. When I was in the TOEFL class, I found my weak points in English, and I focused on finding solutions. We studied all the skills, including listening, reading, writing and speaking. Sometimes we discussed our answers in small groups. Sometimes we argued about why we chose those answers, and we had to explain our choices. Regarding our writing and speaking skills, we helped each other and shared our opinions on how to give good responses. We also had lots of fun, although I was tough. The other reason why I considered taking the TOEFL course at GEOS, even though I didn't need a TOEFL score, is the TOEFL teacher. The teacher was great. As I mentioned before, I studied ESL classes at GEOS with the same teacher as the TOEFL for a long time, so I already knew his teaching style. It made me register for that course, too. He was strict about our mistakes. When we first made mistakes, he gave us time to find our mistakes by ourselves. We talked and advised each other. Then, if we made the same mistakes again, he made us discuss the mistakes. He also encouraged us always. When I first joined the TOEFL course, I was kind of depressed, because studying TOEFL was a huge challenge for me. I even thought I wanted to give up, but I just trusted him and I took the classes. Finally, I was chosen as the most improved student at the end of that course. My teacher and I were so proud of that. It helped me in real life, too. That course made me more thoughtful and insightful. Most lessons were about lectures, so I learned lots of incidental cultural points. Moreover, in the independent speaking and writing test, we had to organize our opinions quickly within a time limit. Many students, including me, found difficulties for the first while, but it got better and better. Now, when I get unexpected questions in real life, I am able to answer right away, even hard questions on the environment or the history of world, or whatever. Therefore, I want to say this course is not only for people who need to learn TOEFL test-taking skills, but for people who want to improve all of their English skills. Do not hesitate if you want to improve your English effectively!! This course is a great opportunity to develop your English and your critical thinking skills for real life.
